BANG MY LINE
Rexx Life Raj and Donna Missal's "
Can Oui" track was released to the public nine months ago, and just two days ago The Last Artful, Dodgr's remix dropped via Text Me Records. The original track features smooth, easygoing vocals from Rexx Life Raj, and soothing backup vocals on the chorus from Donna Missal. The instrumental from Studio_Dad contains slow drums and light synths, perfectly adding to the mellow vibe. Portland, Oregon artist The Last Artful, Dodgr's take on the track is exactly what a remix should be: a rendition that takes the original to a different place without abandoning the construct set by the song. The young rapper flexes a unique, alternative rap flow that is at times comparable to Anderson Paak, and at times much quicker and more aggressive. The "Can Oui" remix is the first single from Text Me Records' Bang My Line Valentine's Day Mixtape
(EAR MILK)
San Francisco's own Text Me Records just dropped Bang My Line, a brand new mixtape of previously unreleased material right in time for Valentine's Day. This eclectic mix of hip-hop and R&B features cuts from established and rising artists, including meme king Ka5sh, Thizzler-nominated producer Drew Banga, Fresh Finds discovery Fat Tony, and Dodgr, who was recently spotted hanging in the studio with Mark Ronson.
Also on the tracklist? Oakland's William Robert, the artist behind the delectably groovy "Get Me High". We tracked him down to ask him about his irresistibly danceable contribution to Bang My Line.
"I am in love with rhythms that move the body, almost unconsciously," he told us. "I had been listening to Daft Punk and they are geniuses at building a melody and beat that will spiritually possess you by the end of the song. I wanted to come up with something that would infect the listener like they do."
